Is this a good idea for a story/novel?

It sound Pretty good But i suggest you Watch the movie The Thing and read the Short story Who Goes There if you haven't already to maybe help distance your story form those and make any changes others might see as stealing. i also suggest having a main character that is human and another who is alien.
